23 JAN 2009Alternative currenciesWhen I worked on time dollars or volunteer hours in the 1990s they seemed sound but dull, and I found personal currency more interesting. This evolved through Kids' Currency and free dollars to become funny money. That's where we start, making our own worthless currency, which has the potential of carrying our highest values, is fun to play with, and teaches us about all kinds of money. One of our games, the investment game for projects and building funny world, attracts matching funds and models the time dollars system. Thus funny money teaches us how time dollars work. Serious projects are then converted to time dollars, leaving our funny money free to be funny.
