It's a game, challenging us to be funny, and the forfeit when we fail is doing time. The balance is such that we always need more funniness, since it will tend to expand both the funny and time economies, and it's OK to specialize in funny and live in funny world. The funny priority is maintained because it's a much higher and rarer skill than doing time.
