Jokes are memes
Humor is a way to spread an idea or attitude. A good joke rewards the retelling, at least until everybody's heard it. Then a joke becomes old, and people close their minds to it. The joke ceases to be a meme.

To avoid this fate, and make a joke into a permanent meme, it has to
be an ongoing or running joke, with endless new variations built upon the
underlying meme. The TFF structure is rich in this regard.
